So much said in looks
now as the briquets flare up
from lamb and salmon
drippings. Our conver-
sation has produced refresh-
ing silences. ‘More
red? More white? Cognac?’
We have been released each one
in turn to what is
beyond us. Three friends
and a garden barbecue
as night closes in.
With the world void of
gods the laughs we share at the
end glitter like stars.
