Today’s mantra—-it’s
Independence Day—-is the
same: a tense togeth-
ness of not self and
being at home with being.
Not really a word.
The village over-
flows with tourists thin and fat.
Draped in flags. It’s hot.
Tonight fireworks. I
will gather the cats and wait
it out on the bed.
