Foothills full of gold
poppies. Say ‘Mojave!’ Not just
immensely empty,
a bigger sky, and
at night the intimacy
of the swaying stars.
And on long summer
afternoons a big rock con-
cert of cicada,
rising and falling
like a Grateful Dead anthem.
The infinite loves
the finite. I grew
up and moved away. Haiku
won’t let me forget.
