You save the mail for
teatime. Rejection letters,
some ads. You spent your
childhood with books, so
you have no friends. You have words—-
dark, salt, clear, moving,
utterly free—-cold
comfort and you don’t own them.
But when things connect,
they are the ones who
ask you to dance. The cottage
rocks with joy till dawn.
