Advent

Credulous I buy
a pocket calendar for
next year. Who tries to

fill empty pages?
My friends light Advent candles—-
one for the Last Days—-

gingerly, lovingly.
I watch fellow pedestrians
slip on the ice and

catch themselves, in awe;
the body resets its sense
of up and down. Ec-

stacy happens. I
see them later having tea
and checking their phones.
