Where we first loved each
other were Portuguese bake-
shops and a rusted
drawbridge left hanging
over the River. It’s gone
now you are gone. There’s
no connection. I
like looking at the water
and the empty air.
I drive past the shops.
I’ve tried those soft sweet rolls you
loved but taste nothing.
